Direct answer
Start with a complete manufacturer part number and a written acceptance brief. Review the offered supply option against that brief before issuing an order. A supplier’s location, catalog entry or preliminary quote does not establish authenticity, availability or authorization.
Why this issue arises
A short description such as “10 µF, 16 V tantalum” leaves the series, tolerance, case, electrolyte and ordering suffix unresolved. A buyer can otherwise compare offers for different components or packaging. Separate the technical identity of the part from the commercial evidence for the particular lot being offered.
Practical review checklist
Define the exact line item
Record manufacturer, complete MPN, quantity, delivery destination and requested date. Attach the controlled BOM and datasheet revision.
Set acceptance conditions
State permitted date codes, mixed-lot policy, reel or cut-tape acceptance and required source records. Mark any negotiable condition explicitly.
Review the actual offer
Request available label and packaging records, source information, quote validity and a clear list of unconfirmed points.
Agree before ordering
Confirm contracting entity, payment beneficiary, shipment terms, inspection scope and discrepancy handling in the written quotation.
Reconfirm at commitment
Revalidate the selected supply option when the purchase order is accepted. A previous market lead is not a stock reservation.
Illustrative example — not a customer case
Illustrative request: a specified TAJ MPN, 2,000 pieces, original reel preferred, one lot requested and a target date. If the offered packaging differs, obtain written buyer approval rather than silently changing the line item.
Technical boundaries
Catalog data can help verify a part description, but cannot authenticate offered goods or establish their storage history. Supplier documents and any agreed testing need review for the specific lot. Engineering must approve substitutions.
How TantalumCore can support
TantalumCore can review the submitted MPN or BOM, organize supply-option research and request available batch and packaging information. Confirm the scope and evidence obtainable for each inquiry.
